Brand Editor of The Players’ Tribune, Hunter Godson, took to Twitter to slam Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier after he was outplayed by Marcus Edwards on Tuesday night.

Spurs were defeated 2-0 thanks to two late goals in Portugal, and while they had the majority of the chances, Edwards – who left Spurs for the Portuguese top flight – caught the eye for his excellent performance, which included a mazy run which nearly resulted in a goal.

During the first half, Edwards used his dribbling ability to take on Dier, who he got past with ease before taking on a number of his teammates and forcing Hugo Lloris into a save. After the incident, Dier was slammed by Godson, who quipped that he had been ‘sent back to Portugal’ by Edwards.

He wrote: “Eric Dier getting sent back to Portugal by the lad from North London.”

TIF Thoughts on Dier’s performance…

While the team played well for the most part, they could not find that little bit of quality up top to secure the win, and they almost failed to deal with Edwards, who was the figurehead of Sporting’s attack.

Dier did not have his best game against the former Spurs starlet, as he was dribbled past twice in the game, lost possession seven times and made two fouls during the match.

Spurs may not be desperate for a win against Eintracht Frankfurt in their next Champions League outing, but if they are to pick up all three points, they are going to need players like Dier to pick up their form as soon as possible.
