Freelance journalist Will Lancaster has taken to Twitter to heap praise on Celtic midfielder Reo Hatate.

The Scottish champions overpowered Shakhtar Donetsk in the early stages of their Champions League group stage clash in Warsaw and the Bhoys took the lead thanks to an own goal from Ukraine U21 international Artem Bondarenko.

However, the goal was effectively created by Hatate’s presence of mind to try and slot the ball past Anatoliy Trubin before a deflection from the defender steered the ball into the back of the net.

The one-cap Japan international continued to dazzle throughout the game before being substituted off by Ange Postecoglou with around 20 minutes of the group stage clash remaining.

And Lancaster believes that Hatate’s signing from Kawasaki Frontale for a fee of just £1.3m has proved to be a fantastic bit of business from the Hoops.

He tweeted: “Reo Hatate has to go down as one of the biggest bargains in football of late, without a doubt.

“Grabbing him for £1.3m is an outstanding find by Celtic.

“Never fails to impress any time I watch him; movement, calmness, ability to make late runs… he’s worth £25m in the PL, easy.

Interesting first question, how many Celtic fans were inside Ibrox?

TIF Thoughts on Hatate’s performance…

We agree with Lancaster and believe that Hatate put in a superb performance in Celtic’s clash with Shakhtar that further justifyies the small fee that Postecoglou’s side paid for the Japanese international.

We think that if Hatate keeps this form up, there will be plenty of Premier League clubs looking to see whether they could potentially persuade him to move south of the border.

For now, though, Celtic fans can enjoy the midfielder’s dazzling displays, which they will hope sees them embark on a European run.
