Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie was left rather impressed by Celtic star Callum McGregor’s performance on the international stage for Scotland against the Republic of Ireland.
Scotland fell behind to a first-half goal from John Egan, but managed to turn things around in the second half as two goals from two former Celtic players in the form of Jack Hendry and Ryan Christie did the job.
But, it was a current Celtic player who caught the eye of Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie, as he took to Twitter to praise the performance of Callum McGregor.
He wrote:
“John McGinn and Callum McGregor again so good.”
Was McGregor as good as Downie made out?
Yes
No
TIF Thoughts on Callum McGregor…
It’s fair to say that Downie’s comment was justified as the midfielder managed a pass success rate of 93%, made one tackle, one clearance, two key passes and had 64 touches in the game (as per whoscored.com).
So far this season, McGregor has a pretty respectable return for Celtic as he currently averages 1.1 shots per game, 1.4 key passes per game, 91.7% pass success rate, 71.9 passes per game, 1 clearance and 1 tackle per game (WhoScored).
Therefore, with a respectable start domestically and his form picking up on the international stage, things are looking very positive for Celtic if he can keep things up with a two point gap currently over Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.
