Discussing West Brom’s recent Championship loss, journalist Liam Cox slammed the defence for their ‘horror show’ performance.

The Baggies have fallen all the way to 20th in the Championship table after they picked up their second loss of the season, meaning they have now failed to win in their last four outings.

The loss came to their Midlands rivals Birmingham City in which Scott Hogan scored a hat-trick, and as a result, Steve Bruce’s side were slammed by Cox during a post-match appearance on the Express and Star YouTube channel.

Cox said: “Albion conceded the first goal again, we’re already sick to the back teeth of saying that. Bruce is fed up with that, you know, the team just aren’t starting. They’re starting a goal down in every game. And are they good enough to score twice to win every game? No. And defensively, it was just a horror show, defending tonight, absolutely disastrous in the back.”

TIF Thoughts on Cox’s comments…

The Baggies need to turn their form around as soon as possible or they run the risk of entering into a relegation battle that they should they not be anywhere close to. A key area to fix is their defence, as they put in a shocking display against Birmingham.

Not one of their four defenders managed to pick up a higher match rating than 6.9 (as per SofaScore), which was earned by Conor Townsend. Captain Dara O’Shea was rated at 6.7, while Kyle Bartley and Taylor Gardner-Hickman rated as the Baggies’ two lowest-rated outfield players in the starting XI.

The club need to make some additions during the January window if they are to push themselves up the table, or even explore the possibility of a free transfer to freshen the team up.

If they do not improve the squad, there is only one direction they will be heading in – and we wouldn’t be certain Bruce would get them out of trouble.
