Tottenham Hotspur’s hat-trick hero Son Heung-min was spotted hugging the club’s fitness coach Gian Piero Ventrone following the win on the weekend.

This is according to the reliable Spurs journalist Alasdair Gold who has been speaking on his latest YouTube video about the South Korean’s stunning cameo on Saturday.

It has been a tricky start to the new campaign for the 30-year-old who ended the 2021/22 season as the joint-top goalscorer alongside Mohamed Salah.

Until the game against the struggling Leicester City, the South Korean had failed to find the back of the net in the opening six Premier League games which saw him dropped to the bench on Saturday.

However, having come off the bench, the forward wasted little time in punishing the Foxes as he netted three goals in little over 13 minutes and was seen embracing Ventrone following his masterclass in N17:

(25:20) “And I noticed after when he came off the pitch, one of the biggest hugs he got and it was a long kind of emotional hug, was with Gian Piero Ventrone the fitness coach.

“Which I always find kind of a strange paradox. He’s a guy that works the players so hard, and I seen him make Sonny collapse and almost be sick on the side of the pitch, you know, out in Korea when he was training him. Yet the players adore Ventrone.

“And it was this really nice moment where they were having a real embrace, it wasn’t just a kind of a post-match hug. It was a real outpouring of emotion kind of hug. It was really, really nice.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

It is perhaps slightly odd to see a player have such a good relationship with the fitness coach who pushed a lot of the Spurs players close to their absolute limit over the summer.

Should Son now return to the starting XI?

No

And Son was clearly one of those players who was seen hurting after Ventrone’s fitness sessions over the summer with the South Korean collapsing to the floor in the open training sessions.

However, it is perhaps Ventrone’s efforts that Son believes he owes a lot of gratitude to with the Italian pushing the forward to the limit during pre-season and perhaps behind-the-scenes at Hotspur Way amid his goal drought.
