Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has been hailed by Alasdair Gold for his showing in the victory on the weekend in N17.

The Spurs reporter had been speaking on his YouTube channel following the 6-2 victory over Leicester City on Saturday which saw Bentancur impress.

Spurs bounced back from their midweek defeat against Sporting CP with an emphatic second half which was kicked into life by the Uruguayan midfielder who scored his first Spurs goal in the 47th minute.

Bentancur has become a key member of Antonio Conte’s matchday XI since joining in January having already made 26 appearances under the Italian.

And it was apparent Gold was left impressed with the 25-year-old’s display in north London as he awarded him a 9/10 in his player ratings and hailed him on his latest video:

(33:00) “For me in that second half that might be the best I’ve seen him play. First half, he was a little bit sloppy. He gave the ball away in some really silly positions. But that’s pretty much what most of the Spurs team were doing.

“But I just felt second half, I don’t know whether Conte made a special kind of point of talking to him or one of the coaches did. But second half I felt Bentancur came out like an absolute kind of steam train ready to change the game. It was all action. He was everywhere. He covered every blade of grass.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

Despite Son-Heung min taking the headlines for his sublime hat-trick, we have to agree with Gold’s assessment of the midfielder whose goal summed up his display as he showed the tenacity to close down Wilfried Ndidi before coolly slotting the ball beyond Danny Ward.

Do you think Bentancur is better than Hojbjerg?

No

As well as grabbing his first Spurs goal, Bentancur was also able to provide an assist, three tackles, three blocks and four interceptions (via Transfermarkt).

It was important for both Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to bounce back from underwhelming midweek displays with Yves Bissouma coming on against the Foxes and showing a lot of promise.
