Presenter Conor McGilligan has been blown away by Leeds United youngster Darko Gyabi after his summer move.

During the past transfer market, the Whites made a number of high-profile moves that included selling the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha, while new stars such as Brenden Aaronson and Luis Sinisterra arrived.

However, one of the lesser-known arrivals was 18-year-old Gyabi, who joined from Manchester City on a four-year contract, with Leeds paying a fee thought to be around £5m.

It seems as though the teenager is making a pretty good impression at his new club, too. Indeed, while talking about the player on the One Leeds Fan Channel, McGilligan raved about the player, calling him a ‘very impressive young man’.

He said: “I was looking at a video, it was a sort of compilation of his skills and his training – even when he’s not playing, for the first team or the 21s, and he’s looking absolutely fantastic.

“Apparently, he’s very, very, very highly thought of in the under-21 setup. Obviously, the footage that we’ve all seen on social media and LUTV, he looks very, very comfortable.“

“I thought it looked very good in pre-season, very good on the ball, very good at passing, bypassing that press, carrying the ball. And it looks like he is making a real impression at Leeds.

“It’s going to be fascinating to see if at any point this season he does even start for Leeds United. Very, very good on the ball and just watching this training compilation of him and the graft that he’s putting in off-season, I think a lot of Leeds fans are looking at him and thinking maybe, potentially, he’s going to be making his first-team debut in the Premier League very, very shortly. A very, very impressive young man, so keep an eye on that one.”

TIF Thoughts on Darko Gyabi and Leeds United…

On the opening day of the Premier League season, the teenager was on the bench for Leeds, but didn’t get on the pitch against Wolves (via Transfermarkt).

Since then, he has had to settle for minutes in the youth setup. Indeed, in the Premier League 2, Gyabi has played four times and stood out in particular during a 5-1 win over Nottingham Forest where he scored and assisted from defensive midfield.

Clearly, the player has caught the eye early on in his Leeds career. With that in mind, it certainly wouldn’t be a shock to see him return to the bench in the league soon and perhaps that senior debut isn’t too far away.
