YouTuber and presenter Conor McGilligan has expressed his excitement as Leeds United seem close to signing youngster Harrison Ashby.
Late on in the summer window, it became apparent that the Whites were keen on signing the right-back amid issues with his contract.
Now, in an update from journalist Dean Jones (via GIVEMESPORT), it has been claimed that Leeds are keen on landing the player and could pull off a deal if West Ham can’t get Ashby to extend his current deal, which expires next season.
In reaction to this news, McGilligan outlined how happy he was. He told the One Leeds Fan Channel: “I remember watching Harrison Ashby once, I think it was in a Europa League game. I was sat there, it might have been a year ago and this kid was playing – it was either a Europa League game or just a Premier League game – I think he was deputising for Ryan Fredericks, and he looked good. He looked really good.
“Obviously, he’s only a young lad, he’s going to be stuck in the Under-21s again, but it’s good to see Leeds United bolstering that profile again.
“And yeah, it looks like he’s going to be joining if – if – they can’t figure their sorts out with West Ham United. So keep an eye on that one.”
TIF thoughts on Harrison Ashby and Leeds United…
When McGilligan mentions that it will be good to see Leeds United ‘bolstering that profile again’ he is referring to the club’s insistence on buying youth prospects such as the signing of Sonny Perkins, who ironically arrived from West Ham in the summer himself after letting his contract expire.
Considering that the youngster has already made a hugely positive impression in the Whites’ youth setup, it’s safe to say the possible arrival of Ashby would be met by plenty of excitement, too – as proven by McGilligan’s comments.
While only 20 years of age, the Scotland youngster has played just six games for the senior Hammers’ team, but he clearly feels as though he deserves more game time, hence the possibility of his exit. If Leeds can offer him those first-team minutes, it looks as though they could be landing another top talent.
