Southampton are “excited” about their signing of winger Samuel Edozie following his deadline day move to St Mary’s.

That is according to journalist Dean Jones, who was speaking to GiveMeSport about the latest news from the Saints following the closure of the summer transfer window.

Southampton confirmed the signing of Edozie on deadline day, with the winger signing a five-year contract on the south coast for a reported fee of £10m.

The 19-year-old was one of 10 signings for Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side this summer, with the transfer window seemingly acting as an opportunity for Southampton to add more youth to their side ahead of the remainder of the season.

Edozie made his first appearance in last weekend’s 1-0 defeat at Wolves, playing just 17 minutes of the fixture after coming on as a substitute.

And Jones believes that there is a general excitement around St Mary’s at how the former Manchester City man may perform for the club this season.

He said: “They think that he’s a profile of player that is a perfect fit for them and they can give him take off in his career.

“Speaking to people, it is one that they’re far more excited about than the outside world seems to be.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

We believe that Edozie, who has previously been described as an “incredible young player” by Pep Guardiola, could prove to be a very exciting signing for the Saints this season.

The club could be putting themselves in a strong position financially – especially if he impresses his former club so much that they activate their buy-back clause, which has been inserted into the deals of the three players who have made the move from the Etihad Stadium to St Mary’s this summer.

Having made 13 appearances for Manchester City’s U21 side last season, in which the youngster scored three goals and provided one assist according to Transfermarkt, we believe that now is the time for the two-time England U19 international to make the step up to senior football on a regular basis.

Therefore, we believe that Edozie’s move to the south coast may be the best move he could have made for his career, as he is likely to get a chance of playing top-level senior football and could potentially earn himself a big move should he impress during his time under Hasenhüttl.
