Journalist Pete O’Rourke has tipped Eddie Howe to pair Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson up front for Newcastle United.

Over the summer, the Magpies spent a club-record £63m on signing their new Swedish striker from Spanish outfit Real Sociedad. However, they already have a pretty goalscorer in the squad.

Indeed, Wilson has netted 22 goals for the club in just 3,837 minutes of playing time, which is one every 174 minutes – a goal in every other game.

While talking about the Newcastle United pair, O’Rourke told GiveMeSport that manager Eddie Howe will likely ‘consider’ playing the duo so he can get the best out of his two key men.

He said: “I’m sure it’s something that Eddie Howe would consider, playing two up front. I’m sure it will all depend on the formation of the opposition whether he plays the two attackers up front, but Eddie Howe traditionally has been somebody who does like to play two forwards up front as well.”

Will we see Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson start up front together for Newcastle United?

TIF Thoughts on Alexander Isak, Callum Wilson and Newcastle…

Wilson has two goals in three games this season, but hasn’t been able to play since Isak arrived due to injury. Isak has played up top in his absence, netting on his debut against Liverpool.

So far, Howe has opted to play a 4-3-3 system, so would have to alter his approach in a big way to fit both men in as natural strikers. But with just one Premier League win this term, he might want to mix things up.

What’s more, he did often set up in formations such as 4-4-2 in the past that could accommodate two centre-forwards at former club Bournemouth – with Wilson even being used in that setup – so he could happily revert to this tactic.

Therefore, we agree with O’Rourke that this could be something on Howe’s mind.
