Leeds United and United States international Tyler Adams has made an impressive start to his career at Elland Road.

That is the view of Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton, who was speaking to GiveMeSport about the latest in West Yorkshire.

Adams joined Jesse Marsch’s side from RB Leipzig during the summer transfer window in a deal which was thought to be worth around £20m.

The 23-year-old had big boots to fill, with the midfielder seemingly being a replacement for England international Kalvin Phillips, who departed for Manchester City for a fee of £45m earlier in the summer.

And Thornton has heaped praise on the way that Adams has transitioned from the Bundesliga to Premier League football, saying: “He’s done really, really well. He knows his game.

“When he came in, he said, ‘I’m not going to be the man to replace Kalvin Phillips, I’m my own man.’

“There are similarities in the way he plays with Phillips in the way that he breaks play up and screens the defence. But he’s also very different in a lot of ways. So, he’s done brilliantly.”

TIF Thoughts on Thornton’s comments…

We agree with the views of Thornton and think that Adams has been an integral part of Marsch’s side’s relatively positive start to the campaign so far.

The 30-cap United States international has participated in 100% of possible Premier League minutes for the Whites so far this campaign, suggesting his importance to the Elland Road outfit.

An average SofaScore rating of 7.00 for his Premier League performances so far this season ranks him as the fifth highest-rated performer for the top division side so far this season, suggesting that he has adapted to life in English football seamlessly.

Therefore, we believe that despite the loss of Phillips this summer, Marsch’s side haven’t suffered from his departure greatly due to the incredibly impressive form of Adams so far this campaign.
