Leeds United defender Cody Drameh could be set for a big boost as his chances at starting again at right-back may have just improved.

The defender was trusted from the off during his club’s most recent Premier League game as he played ahead of the injured Rasmus Kristensen and recent returnee Luke Ayling.

This was Drameh’s first league start of the season and despite the competition for the right-back role, he could be in for more chances. TIF has decided to explain why…

Rasmus Kristensen off to a slow start

Having arrived from Red Bull Salzburg for a fee of around £10m this summer, Kristensen hasn’t exactly hit the ground running yet at Leeds. Indeed, there have been concerns he has ‘struggled to adapt to the Premier League‘, while his ‘suspect’ displays have also been noted in the media.

And now, according to Telegraph reporter Mike McGrath, the defender is potentially out for the next three weeks.

His current injury kept him out of the recent Brentford match, and seeing as Drameh started that match in his place, this latest injury news will come as an added boost for the youngster.

Luke Ayling issues

Of course, with Kristensen out, Jesse Marsch could opt to go for experience in the form of Ayling. After all, the veteran impressed hugely in his 20-minute cameo against the Bees, as he picked up an assist.

However, that game was the first time the right-back had played this season since missing the end of the past campaign after having surgery on his knee. And as a 31-year-old, questions will remain about his ability to immediately get back to his best in the top flight.

What’s more, as explained on the Inside Elland Road podcast (via The Boot Room) Ayling has a ‘really worrying’ issue after he ‘seriously mashed’ his nose recently, so this could negatively impact his recovery – opening up an interesting opportunity for Drameh in the process.

TIF Thoughts…

With all that in mind, it seems that of the three natural right-backs that Marsch has played his season, Drameh is the only truly fit one currently available.

And so, the 20-year-old may soon be handed another chance to impress when football returns. If he can take it, he could well keep his spot in the team with those aforementioned doubts still lingering over the other options.

Will Cody Drameh truly break into the Leeds first team this season?
