Rangers have been described as a “law unto themselves” following a recent report to emerge surrounding the £150m broadcasting deal approved by top-flight Scottish clubs this week.

This is how Frank McAvennie has labelled the Gers when discussing the latest on the Sky Sports broadcast offer with Football Insider.

It has been claimed that the £150m proposal from the broadcasting powerhouse is now being finalised, with clubs expected to receive around £30m each per season.

However, it is believed 11 of the 12 Scottish Premiership sides voted in favour of the proposed deal, with Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side the only one to oppose it.

And McAvennie has now hit out at the Ibrox side for failing to go with the proposal and criticised the club for arguing about a number of issues.

He said: “Rangers are a law unto themselves at the moment, they’re arguing about everything.

“They argue about Cinch, they argue about everything. It’s all legal work. Rangers obviously think they can get more, which is fair enough – I think they should get more, I think the whole lot should get more, but it isn’t happening – but you’ve got to get money in.

“If you keep holding back deals, that’s going to cost the little clubs money, because you’re waiting, it’s the wrong thing to do. It could be life and death to the little clubs.”

TIF Thoughts on McAvennie’s comments…

We do appreciate where McAvennie is coming from in his thoughts on potentially damaging the smaller sides in the Premiership.

However, Rangers have to do what is right by them. And if they were not in full agreement of the proposal from Sky Sports, they had every right not to vote in favour of it.

It does seem as if there may have also been some external factors affecting the decision-making, with a dispute over the Cinch sponsorship deal.

Regardless, it is now believed the offer has been accepted and Rangers will benefit from a large sum of money from the new broadcast deal.
