Journalist Josh Bunting has been blown away by what Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou said before his club’s Champions League campaign begins.

This week, the Bhoys will return to Europe’s elite competition for the first time in five years and will host current holders Real Madrid at Celtic Park.

Ahead of the game, he was asked about the pressure and expectation of the occasion, and delivered a fine answer as he insisted he didn’t want to burst people’s bubbles.

He said (via ABC SPORT): “I’m glad our supporters are buzzing about it, I’ve got no problem with that. That’s what we love about the game. Of course, my job is to stay even-tempered through it, so in terms of my expectations and what I am communicating to the players for us as a group is what we need to do to keep progressing. That’s a different story.

“But I want our supporters dreaming of big games and big wins and winning things. That’s the role of us as a football club.

“I’m sure they get enough of their bubble burst in their normal lives on a daily basis. It doesn’t need me to bring them down and tell them, look, don’t come here too excited tomorrow because it might not go well.

“I don’t think that’s my role. My role is to make sure they come bouncing in, and hopefully, we send them bouncing out.”

Bunting was evidently blown away by the impressive and honest response from the Celtic boss and claimed that he had given a ‘fantastic answer.’

On Twitter, he wrote: “If you can’t enjoy games against Real Madrid then football isn’t for you. Have a lot of time for Postecoglou – love Celtic or not, he is a man who just gets it.

“He understands the love of the game not just as a great coach but as a human being. Fantastic answer.”

TIF thoughts on Ange Postecoglou and Celtic…

It seems as though Bunting wasn’t the only one to be impressed by the answer, with Max Rushden of The Guardian claiming online ‘he just gets it’ after hearing the quotes.

Postecoglou has certainly made a good impression in his time in Scotland on the pitch having won the league title and guided Celtic back into the Champions League in his debut campaign.

And these quotes suggest he is getting it right off the field of play as well. No doubt, he’ll be hoping for a huge result tonight when Real Madrid arrive to face the Hoops at an atmospheric Celtic Park.
