Football Scotland journalist Euan Robertson has slammed Celtic star Liel Abada in his player ratings after their Champions League loss.
The Bhoys’ dreams of reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League just became a lot harder after they were handed a 3-0 defeat by Real Madrid.
Despite putting up a good fight in a goalless first half, Madrid got the better of the Scottish giants in the second half thanks to goals from Vinicius Jr, Luka Modric and Eden Hazard.
One player who was criticised for his poor display was winger Abada, who was hooked at half-time and was labelled as ‘off the pace’ by Robertson, who handed the Israeli a 5/10 match rating.
He wrote: “Spurned a great chance early on and was a bit off the pace during the first half and it was no surprise that he was hooked at the break.”
TIF Thoughts on Abada’s performance…
Despite impressing so far this season in the Scottish Premiership with six goals in six games for the Hoops, it is not surprising Abada was subbed at half-time and criticised by Robertson for this recent performance.
According to SofaScore, in the 45 minutes he had on the pitch, Abada had just 14 touches on the ball and failed both of his crossing attempts and his one long ball attempt.
He also only managed to win one of his four ground duels and was unsuccessful in his only aerial attempt, while he lost possession six times and was dribbled past twice.
The winger also missed a great chance to score in the first half after a wonderful pass from Jota put him through on goal, but the Israeli forward only managed to put the ball straight into Thibaut Courtois’ hands. They now face Shakhtar Donetsk in their next game and will need a much-improved performance from the likes of Abada if they are to talk all three points home.
