Former player Frank McAvennie has claimed that Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers will be out injured for a while – and this will be a huge blow for the club.

The American has been out recently, and after missing his nation’s games during the international break, it remains unclear exactly when he will be back, but manager Ange Postecoglou has said that he hopes the defender won’t be out for too long (via Daily Record).

However, if the latest talk is to be believed, it looks as though Carter-Vickers could be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines that will see him miss a few weeks of action for Celtic.

Indeed, in a recent interview, McAvennie told Football Insider what he had heard about the defender and explained his fears over how it could negatively impact the reigning SPFL champions.

He said: “He’s a huge miss and apparently he’s going to be out for a while, from what I’ve heard.

“It’s not ideal with the games coming thick and fast, but the international break will have done him good. He’ll be getting worked on and hopefully he’ll be back in a couple of weeks.

“He’s a huge presence in the team. I think [Moritz] Jenz looks a better player when he’s with Carter-Vickers, so does [Carl] Starfelt. [Stephen] Welsh and Jenz didn’t do it last week for me. There were too many changes. It was great for St Mirren, but from a Celtic point of view, it was the first game they’ve lost in a year and it was a stupid one to lose because they just didn’t turn up.”

TIF Thoughts on Cameron Carter-Vickers and Celtic…

In the league this term, the centre-back has played in all but one game. Clearly, his presence was sorely missed in that one match as Celtic fell to a 2-0 defeat, having won every single other game up to that point (via Transfermarkt).

Across those six SPFL games Carter-Vickers has played in, he has delivered a number of consistent performances, keeping an impressive five clean sheets and earning an average SofaScore match rating of 7.3 per game.

All in all, it’s easy to see why McAvennie has dubbed this latest injury as a ‘huge’ concern for the Bhoys, and manager Postecoglou will probably feel desperate to get him fit and running again as they look to keep themselves at the top of the league and try to get out of their Champions League group.
