Celtic’s latest financial report revealed last week will have their local rivals concerned, according to Frank McAvennie.

The football pundit has been speaking to Football Insider following the Bhoys’ announcement last week claiming they had seen a big increase in the club’s revenue.

It was a positive report for the Parkhead side, with their loss from the previous year turned around with an impressive profit of £6.1m.

Ange Postecoglou’s men have made a bright start to the new campaign with six wins from their opening seven games in the Scottish Premiership.

And with a two-point gap to their city rivals in the table, McAvennie has insisted Rangers will be looking on with envy due to their financial issues.

He said: “I think it’s great that Celtic are coming out with that with the trouble on the other side of the city.

“You don’t know what’s going on over there because people say they’re in trouble and then chairmen come out and say they’re ok. It’s a different kettle of fish. But Celtic are in a good place, they’re growing, they’re buying decent players and they’re gradually getting there.

“When Ange has wanted money, he’s been getting it. I think they totally trust him so there won’t be a problem there.

“All I wanted this year was to do well in Europe and they’ve done it for me. I know the Shakhtar result was poor but they battered them, just didn’t score. From where we were last year, we got put out of three tournaments in one season. I’m delighted with where they are.”

TIF Thoughts on McAvennie’s comments…

It is hard to disagree with McAvennie. Everything feels as if it is going in an upward direction at Parkhead, with the on-field action clearly translating to success in last week’s financial report.

Do you think Celtic can make it out of the CL group?

No

With Postecoglou in charge, the club has taken back the Scottish crown and returned to the elite European tournament in the Champions League.

And given their rivals have been put on UEFA’s watchlist for their own financial concerns, it makes last week’s financial report even better reading for Celtic fans.
