Presenter John McGinley has slammed the media as they put pressure on Ange Postecoglou to criticise Celtic fans after they disrupted a minute’s applause in memory of Queen Elizabeth II.

Over the weekend, the Bhoys took on St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership and actually saw their 38-game unbeaten streak come to an end with a 2-0 defeat.

However, of all the news surrounding the game, that wasn’t necessarily the most headline-grabbing story. Indeed, plenty of media outlets have picked up on the behaviour of the Celtic fans – including some who chanted ‘if you hate the Royal Family clap your hands’ – during the minute’s applause for the Monarch.

After the game, when asked about the incident, Postecoglou simply said: “I get why the interest is there, but I’m a manager at a football club, and I sit at press conferences wanting to talk about football.”

In reaction to this, McGinley noted a thirst in the media to hear the Celtic manager condemn his own supporters, and the presenter took to Twitter to call the whole situation ‘bizarre’.

Indeed, he wrote: “I count 9 headlines, at least, referencing the fact Ange Postecoglou ‘refused’ to comment on the issue today. Pretty bizarre to be honest.”

Do you think Ange Postecoglou should have said more on the Celtic fans?

Maybe Ange is a Republican that believes Australia should be free from the Crown also. With the Queen gone you would expect quite a few Commonwealth nations to dispense with the nonsense of the Saxe-Coburg-Gothas. The presumption of the thick media, writing from the perspective of the Orange Hall and the Stands of Ibrox is that the big man is against the views of the Celtic support, how do they know he has no time for the whole clown show and is as disgusted with the freeloading in-breds as the rest of us. Why didn’t the thieving toe-rags not stump up for their own granny’s funeral?
