According to journalist Dean Jones, Celtic have had made a breakthrough in the deadline-day pursuit of Danish midfielder Oliver Abildgaard.

The Hoops have started the 2022/23 season in incredible fashion, currently sitting top of the table, two points above their bitter rivals and have picked up huge wins including 5-0 and 9-0 thrashings in their last two away league victories.

A big reason for this is their summer business, as they bought in Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers on permanent deals, amongst others. However, it looks like the Bhoys still have another deal to get done before the summer window slams shut at midnight.

They are in talks to sign Danish midfielder Abildgaard from Rubin Kazan, and the player is looking for a move away from the Russian Premier League due to the invasion of Ukraine, as reported by Football Scotland.

While talks were quiet, Jones told GiveMeSport earlier today that the Scottish giants have had a ‘breakthrough’ in their quest to sign the six-foot-four midfielder who is exactly what they have been missing.

Jones said, “I spoke to someone who said that this kind of style of midfielder is exactly what they feel they’ve been missing.

Interesting first question, how many Celtic fans were inside Ibrox?

“And they’ve tried various players of his type across the summer and not got them across the line, but it looks like on this one that they’ve had a breakthrough”.

TIF Thoughts on Abildgaard…

The 26-year-old could bring some height and more physicality to the Celtic midfield as well as chip in with a goal and assist here and there as last season he picked up one goal and three assists across all competitions for the Russian team.

He will also be reunited with his former teammates at Kazan, Sead Haksabanovic and Carl Starfelt so settling in and getting comfortable with the team and the change of the league should be easier and quicker.

Postecoglou is responsible for the signings of Liel Abada, Jota, Kyogo Furuhashi, Reo Hatate, and Joe Hart to name a few. This is the core of their title-winning team from last season and therefore it should give Celtic fans hope that Abildgaard is the right guy for them.
