ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United are unlikely to sign anyone on a free contract now the transfer deadline has passed.

The insider had previously spoken about the possibility of the club adding some depth to their squad by signing some free agents.

However, having recently brought up this possibility to his sources within West Ham, it seems as though they have denied the likelihood of this being a plan for the club.

Indeed, while talking on the latest episode of The West Ham Way podcast, Ex outlined the response he was given when talking about the chances of any players joining the Irons following the closure of the transfer window.

He said: “There are a few other decent players out there on a free. So I actually contacted the club today and said, ‘would we be looking to sign any of them?’

“And they said bar a massive injury crisis, probably not because they haven’t had a summer pre-season. So it takes 6-8 weeks for them to get fit anyway, which takes you up to the World Cup break, which then takes you up to pretty much January.”

TIF Thoughts on free agents and West Ham United…

Ross Barkley is one example of a high-profile free agent who had reportedly piqued the interest of West Ham this summer. But it appears the club opted against chasing him and he has since joined Nice in Ligue 1.

The fact that the club didn’t go in for the former Chelsea man certainly does back up the information from Ex’s source. As explained, it would take a fair while to get incoming players up to full fitness, and the Hammers can’t really afford that – especially following the slow start to the Premier League season they have endured.

And so, it looks as though the club’s squad is now complete and there won’t be any new senior additions until we get to the January transfer market after the World Cup.
