Injury specialist Ben Dinnery fears West Ham United defender Craig Dawson could now be out until October as he has not responded as hoped to his thigh problem.

The Hammers have started very slowly this season and this is largely due to injuries to their defensive unit, as we have seen the likes of Nayef Aguerd, Angelo Ogbonna, Aaron Cresswell, Ben Johnson and Dawson all miss game time of far this season.

While Ogbonna has now made a return to the team in their last two games, Dawson looks to be out for the next couple of weeks as Dinnery claimed his thigh problem, which has kept him out this season thus far, is persisting and could in fact see him out for a little while longer.

Dinnery said on the Premier FPL Injuries YouTube channel: “We’ve heard on several occasions how Craig Dawson was nearing a return from this persistent thigh problem which hampered him throughout the summer.

“Unfortunately, he’s not responding as hoped, it’s taken a little bit longer, and again, this might be a player that we won’t see back in action until October – of course, after that international break.”

TIF Thoughts on Dinnery’s comments…

The Irons have improved their form after losing their first three games, and getting their top defenders back like Dawson is only going to help them push themselves back up the table and hit the heights they were expecting to at the start of the season.

Last term, the 32-year-old was a crucial part of their team, picking up 50 appearances and a total of 4,206 minutes across all competitions, along with four goals and two assists along the way. He also played every minute of their Europa League campaign aside from their group game against Dinamo Zagreb as they reached the semi-finals.

Unfortunately, if Dinnery’s claim is to be true, they could be missing Dawson for at least two more of their Premier League games and their Europa Conference League clashes, where wins are crucial to their aspirations this season and will hamper their season further if their form suffers further. He has been a huge loss so far and the injury situation only looks to be getting worse for David Moyes.
