According to 90min journalist Toby Cudworth, West Ham United summer signing Nayef Aguerd could return from injury sooner than expected.
The Hammers spent a huge amount of money this past summer in their efforts to continue building under David Moyes after they finished seventh last season and made it to the semi-final of the Europa League.
They brought in the likes of Aguerd, Gianluca Scamacca, Lucas Paqueta, and Maxwel Cornet to name a few. However, unfortunately for the player and the fans, Aguerd has yet to play a Premier League game after picking up an injury during the preseason.
It seems this could quickly change though, as Cudworth revealed during an appearance on the latest Talking Transfers podcast that Aguerd is ahead of schedule in his recovery and while he might not make it before the World Cup, we could see him soon.
He said: “It looks like Nayef Aguerd is ahead of schedule and his recovery as well. We might not see him before the World Cup, but his injury is progressing quite nicely.”
TIF Thoughts on Aguerd returning…
West Ham have struggled so far this season even with their new signings as they currently sit 18th in the Premier League table having scored just three goals and conceded nine with one win on their record.
The return of Aguerd is going to be key for their return to form as the defender as he currently ranks in the 84th percentile for aerial duels and 77th for clearances per game. He will also help out on the attacking side of the ball as he ranks in the 97th percentile for assists and the 86th for passes attempted.
The Irons need a boost this season or face a relegation battle just one season after competing in Europe. Aguerd will help them, but if he does not hit the ground running they could still be in trouble.
