ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United are trying to convince Craig Dawson to sign a one-year contract extension.
Over the summer, it looked as though the defender would be on his way out of the club – with a move to the Midlands strongly touted – but no deal ever came to pass.
Adding to that while speaking on The West Ham Way podcast, the insider explained that he looks likely to leave at the end of the season, if not sooner – but the Irons are hoping to change his mind with a contract offer.
Ex said: “His personal issues are still ongoing. So there’s a chance that he could be allowed to leave in January or almost certainly at the end of the season when his contract expires.
“Although West Ham are trying to convince him to take another one-year contract to stay beyond the season. But I think his family issues are going to mean that he will leave at some point, whether it be January or the summer.”
TIF thoughts on Craig Dawson and West Ham…
The likes of Nayef Aguerd and Thilo Kehrer arrived at West Ham this summer, so the club were clearly keen to bring in some extra depth at centre-back.
This may well have been done with the knowledge that Dawson wanted to leave. However, regardless of those other arrivals, it seems as though David Moyes is still keen on keeping the Englishman part of his squad if this latest claim is to be believed.
With just one year left before his current deal expires (via Transfermarkt), Dawson could go for free at the end of the season. Considering his current ‘issues’ at the Premier League club, this seems more than likely – unless West Ham can make him a pretty convincing contract offer in the near future.
