Tottenham Hotspur may continue discussions regarding Harry Kane’s contract after the World Cup, which is scheduled to finish in December.

That is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest news on the England captain’s contract, during the international break.

Kane, who has been described as “one of the best strikers in the world” by his manager Antonio Conte, has just under two years remaining on his current contract in north London, meaning that now is really the time for Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy to be drawing up a new deal for the club’s second all-time top goalscorer.

Both Bayern Munich and Manchester City have expressed an interest in the 73-time England international over the past two summers, with the club growing increasingly concerned about the former’s current desire to sign the Spurs star.

But O’Rourke believes that further discussions about Kane’s contract may not take place until after the World Cup.

“After the World Cup there’ll be further discussions about his contract situation at Tottenham.

“If he continues to see Tottenham moving in the right direction, that can only boost their chances of keeping hold of him and Kane signing a new contract.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments

We believe that Spurs fans will be a bit unnerved to hear that there’s potential we could be going into the January transfer window without the future of Kane having been resolved.

The Premier League’s third all-time top goalscorer, has scored 254 goals and provided 60 assists in 395 career appearances for the Lilywhites according to Transfermarkt, suggesting that the 29-year-old’s departure would give Conte a major rebuilding headache.

Therefore, we think that it would be in the best interests for Paratici and Levy to get Kane tied down to a new deal, ideally before he jets off to Qatar with England for the World Cup in November.
