Tottenham Hotspur’s summer move for Richarlison came under threat from one of their London rivals, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer guru has been speaking on his latest Here We Go podcast to discuss some of the behind-the-scenes details of this summer’s biggest deals.

And Fabio Paratici’s biggest addition of the summer was the Brazilian forward from Everton for a fee potentially rising as high as £60m.

Richarlison is now beginning to work his way into Conte’s XI having been used as a squad member until the weekend when he received his first start for the Lilywhites (via Transfermarkt).

However, Romano has suggested that Chelsea were trying to scout the player, with defender Thiago Silva messaging his fellow countryman over the possibility of ditching the move to north London.

He said: “I can reveal that I’m told that Thiago Silva was trying to send some messages. Of course, it’s something normal in football. It always happens when there are players from the same country.

“And so he tried to send some messages to Richarlison to understand how advanced it was, the deal with Tottenham, if he had some chance to join Chelsea. But it was too late, because Richarlison a few hours later was going to have his medical as a new Tottenham player.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

This only adds to the notion of Spurs elevating their status in recent times, having landed themselves a major addition to their squad this summer despite one of their Champions League rivals also clearly interested.

It is also perhaps a sign of the work being done in north London with Antonio Conte at the helm, with the Brazilian committed to the move to Spurs.

And there are certainly early signs of this move having big potential, with the 25-year-old impressing massively on the weekend against Fulham, earning himself a 9/10 rating from football.london.

The Brazilian has already hit the headlines this season – maybe for the wrong reasons – but after high praise from the weekend, we are sure Conte will be delighted to have him in his squad.
