Tottenham Hotspur have held talks today over a potential late swoop for midfielder Hakim Ziyech.
This is according to Simon Phillips, who has been speaking to GiveMeSport about the Lilywhites’ plans for the remaining hours of this summer’s window.
It is believed the 29-year-old is free to leave Chelsea this summer and a potential return to Ajax had been reported throughout the course of the summer.
Reports have suggested the midfielder’s departure from west London would be on a loan basis with the Blues expected to pay a large chunk of Ziyech’s wages for Ajax.
However, Spurs are another club which have been linked with a potential interest in the Moroccan international and Phillips believes talks have taken place over a deadline day swoop:
He said: “There is a chance, but Chelsea want a permanent deal.
“And they have been in talks with Tottenham today over Ziyech, and there’s definitely a chance that could happen. But it all depends on Chelsea getting that second attacker as well. So, it’s kind of a domino effect on that one.”
TIF Thoughts on Phillips’ comments…
Ziyech has certainly had a difficult time of it since making the move from Ajax to the Premier League back in 2020 having scored just 14 goals and provided 10 assists for the Blues.
Would you take Ziyech at Spurs?
However, the Moroccan was a major threat during his time with the Amsterdammers where he returned 130 goal involvements in just 164 appearances for Ajax.
So there is definitely a player in there, however, you do have to question whether he would be able to break into the Spurs XI on a regular basis with the current crop in N17.
And with this in mind, Ziyech could potentially find himself in a similar position as he is currently in at Chelsea where he is unable to find any form with first-team football hard to come by.
