Tottenham Hotspur duo Bryan Gil and Lucas Moura are now expected to remain at the club with just hours remaining of the summer window.
This has been suggested by the reliable Spurs correspondent Charlie Eccleshare, who has been speaking on The Athletic’s YouTube channel.
Bryan Gil has been a player strongly linked with a potential move to Valencia, with it believed that a deal was waiting on Spurs to find a replacement, however, this has fallen through since Eccleshare’s comments.
Meanwhile, there has been recent speculation suggesting Aston Villa could be keen on a late move for Moura, with Steven Gerrard looking for more creative options before the deadline.
However, Eccleshare has claimed both of the Spurs wingers were at Hotspur Way today training as usual with the squad ahead of their upcoming game against Fulham on Saturday.
He said: “The focus today is if they can bring in a forward/attacking midfielder, which would then mean they could loan out Bryan Gil or possibly even Lucas Moura.
“But Gil and Moura are both at the training ground and expected to stay at the moment because Spurs can’t land that elusive target.”
TIF Thoughts on Eccleshare’s comments…
This is definitely a disappointing outcome for Gil to remain in north London given he will have had his eyes on a spot in the Spanish World Cup squad.
Has Spurs' summer window been underwhelming?
The young Spaniard is clearly not in Antonio Conte’s immediate plans with just a handful of minutes to his name since the Italian arrived back in November.
And given the move to Valencia was with the hope of him earning more regular first-team action, you do have to wonder how this could hinder his development if he does stay in north London.
As for Moura, he has also fallen out of favour recently and it is unknown what his role in the team will be if he ends up staying after the deadline.
