During a recent appearance on the Oh What A Night podcast, journalist Sean Walsh recently claimed he would like to see Tottenham Hotspur sign former academy prospect Marcus Edwards.

The Lilywhites have done incredibly well in recent transfer windows, bringing in the likes of Dejan Kulusevski, Cristian Romero, Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic and Djed Spence to name a few.

However, it looks like they could have missed out on a future star that was already at the club just a few seasons ago in Edwards, who recently put himself in the sights of every elite team in the world after his performance for Sporting CP against his form team.

The player that was compared to Lionel Messi by former boss Mauricio Pochettino could find himself on the move again very soon, and Walsh claimed he would like to see Edwards back at the club as he is a homegrown talent it would be handy to have him back.

Walsh said: “Would it be cool for him to come back to Spurs? Yeah, I guess like, I’m not saying he starts over Kulusevski, Son, or Richarlison, but be handy to have him, especially counts as homegrown.”

TIF Thoughts on Edwards…

The 23-year-old, who has been described as a ‘genuine nine’, did not experience the best time in north London and as a result, has had to take his talents abroad in order to reach his full potential. With that being said, if he has sorted out his attitude issues, he could become a vital player in this Spurs side.

So far this season he has shone for Sporting in both the Liga Portugal and the Champions League with four goals and three assists in nine appearances across these two competitions.

It will be difficult for Edwards to break into the first team with the likes of Kulusevski, Richarlison, Son Heung-min, and Harry Kane on the side. But with Son and Kane nearing the twilight years of their career, Edwards could become a hugely important player in the future. If they do not sign him and he continues his current trajectory, this could be a huge miss for the side.
