Journalist Tim Spiers has called Tottenham Hotspur defender  Davinson Sanchez a ‘blunderbuss’ after his mistake in their most recent game.

In the Premier League this weekend, Spurs looked to continue their unbeaten start to the season as they played host to a thrilling game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Indeed, with Leicester City coming to visit, Antonio Conte’s men conceded early on when Youri Tielemans scored from the spot, only for Harry Kane to level things just two minutes later.

Spurs then lead through Eric Dier but before the half was up James Maddison scored a fine goal for the Foxes to make it 2-2 at the end of a thrilling first 45 minutes.

Arguably, what was most notable in that period was the penalty incident which saw Sanchez give the ball away cheaply before then making a rash tackle to give away a foul inside the box.

Spiers noted this on Twitter, saying: “Sanchez with a blunderbuss foul on Justin for this pen, seconds after another error set Leicester on the attack.”

TIF thoughts on Davinson Sanchez and Spurs…

Having started the first two league games on the bench, Sanchez isn’t necessarily a guaranteed starter in the Spurs team having only played from the off on four occasions this term in all competitions.

With that in mind, he would have wanted to be at his best against the Foxes in order to impress manager Antonio Conte. However, it seems as though he didn’t quite manage that.

Indeed, not only did he make those two errors early on in the build-up to the penalty, but he also then fouled Danny Ward from a set-piece that cost Spurs a goal.

On top of that, he once gave away a penalty against Arsenal in the north London derby so he won’t be glad to evoke memories of that error. All in all, not a great day at the office for the centre-back.
