Journalist Rob Guest has called the decision to loan out Tottenham Hotspur youngster Dane Scarlett an ‘incredible’ call amid his fantastic form.

At the start of the season, the teenager joined Portsmouth on a 12-month deal as he looked to gain some valuable experience with the League One club.

You never quite know how things will turn out for a talented young player when they head out on loan, but it seems as though that destination choice was a particularly good one, with Scarlett now thriving in his new environment.

Indeed, in an article for football.london, Guest praised the Spurs player – noting one ‘brilliant assist’ as a key highlight so far – and ranked his loan spell as an 8.5/10 up to this point.

In full, he wrote: “Whereas [Troy] Parrott headed to the Championship, Tottenham decided to send Scarlett to League One side Portsmouth for his very first loan spell. It has proved to be an incredible decision for all parties with the 18-year-old excelling at Fratton Park.

“Coming off the bench in his first couple of games for Pompey before getting a huge ovation for his performance from the start against Cambridge United, the Spurs loanee registered a brilliant assist late on in his next game in their 3-1 win over Bristol Rovers.

“Boss Danny Cowley did state that Scarlett would go on a scoring run once he netted his first for the club, which came at Port Vale a week after his assist against Bristol Rovers. Scoring in his following two games, which included a fine double against Peterborough, the striker has made an immediate impact at his new club and really hit his stride.

“Scarlett has made such a good start to life on the south coast and plenty more is to come from him between now and May.”

TIF Thoughts on Dane Scarlett and Spurs…

In League One, Scarlett has three goals and one assist in his first nine appearances (six of which were starts) for Portsmouth and added a further strike in one EFL Cup outing (via Transfermarkt).

Arguably, his high point was a game against Peterborough United in which he scored two goals and consequently picked up an impressive 8.1 match rating on SofaScore.

Considering he is still only just 18 years of age, it certainly is exciting to see the youngster impressing at senior level. Although, he does already have 10 first-team appearances to his name in a Spurs shirt and has won the European U19 Championship with England, so it’s not as if this display of quality should come as a huge shock – particularly to the Spurs faithful.

Even so, the signs are promising as Tottenham (and Portsmouth) seem to have a gem on their hands.
