Ian Dennis has been speaking on the BBC’s Football News Show about the interest clubs showed in Tottenham Hotspur’s Lucas Moura.
It was a rather quiet end to the window for Tottenham as they managed to hand Antonio Conte the majority of his signings before the Premier League season had even kicked off, allowing them time to gel and settle into the squad.
However, that is only in terms of incoming as they were plenty of outgoings with players such as Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele and Sergio Reguillon all leaving the club on a temporary basis, although someone who didn’t join them was Moura, despite Premier League interest.
Dennis has confirmed that there was indeed deadline day interest in Lucas, although Spurs weren’t willing to loan out the winger.
“There was interest in Lucas Moura, but only for a loan deal and Tottenham didn’t really want to entertain that.”
Does Lucas have a future at Spurs?
TIF Thoughts on Lucas’ Spurs future…
It appears very likely that Moura will find regular starts difficult to come by this season with Conte preferring a from three of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison pushing the latter two for a starting berth.
However, that doesn’t appear to have changed his mind in terms of wanting to be a Tottenham player as there were no claims after the interest in him was reported that he’d be keen or even looking for a move away.
Given Moura’ experience in both the Premier League and Champions League, he could yet be an invaluable player for Spurs over what is going to be a long, congested and strange season due to the winter World Cup, so keeping him about may have seemed like a no-brainer for both Conte and Daniel Levy.
