Fabrizio Romano has claimed on the Here We Go podcast that Sergio Reguilon is not in Tottenham Hotspur’s future plans.

Having arrived from Real Madrid for £27m, a lot may have been expected of Reguilon, especially given Madrid even inserted a buy-back clause into the defender’s deal, such was the talent he possessed.

However, he’s fallen right down the pecking order under Antonio Conte – so much so that he was forced to train on his own during pre-season along with other players now not at the club and has joined Atletico Madrid on loan for the season.

There is said to be no option to buy at the end of Reguilon’s contract, although Romano has claimed that the defender is still not in Spurs’ plans moving forward.

He said: “No buy option, it is a straight loan, why? Because of the Financial Fair Play. In the FFP rules, when you include a buy option, it’s something that could be considered as a potential part of the negotiation, and so a potential part of the balance of Financial Fair Play.

Was Reguilon a flop at Spurs?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“So Atletico Madrid decided to proceed with a straight loan, and if they want to sign Sergio Reguilon next summer, they will have a chance to negotiate with Tottenham, to discuss with Tottenham, as Tottenham already signed Udogie, they have Sessegnon, they have Perisic, and so Reguilon at the moment is not in the plans of Tottenham.”

TIF Thoughts on Reguillon’s future…

This will likely be a very big season for Reguilon as he appears to have been cast aside from any first-team plans at Tottenham, while his loan deal has no guarantees that his future will be with Atletico Madrid by the time this season ends.

Therefore, the Spain international will have to ensure he’s putting in good enough performances to convince his once-rival team that he’s worthy of splashing out on next summer, which may be easier said than done under a manager like Diego Simeone.

How well do you know where these Spurs signings came from? Take our quiz to find out! Firstly, where did Dimitar Berbatov arrive from?

It’s no surprise that Reguilon has no future at Spurs when they already have Ryan Sessegnon and Ivan Perisic as left wing-backs and Destiny Udogie set to arrive next summer after another full Serie A campaign under his belt, so we feel it would be best for all parties if Reguilon’s loan deal was turned into a permanent one next year.
