Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil could potentially be on the move in the January transfer window following a summer of speculation.

This has been hinted at by Fabrizio Romano, who has been speaking about Spurs on the Que Golazo YouTube channel ahead of Saturday’s north London derby.

During the summer window, Gil was heavily linked with a potential exit from N17 as Valencia pushed to secure the Spaniard’s services on a season-long loan.

However, Spurs were unable to bring in any further additions in the closing weeks of the market, with Destiny Udogie their last signing on 16th August.

Given Valencia were reportedly so close to landing Gil and with the player keen to leave in the summer, Romano has suggested fans keep an eye on the Spaniard’s future in January.

He said: “A player who had the chance to leave and was really close to leaving Tottenham is Bryan Gil, the Spanish winger – he had an agreement in principle with Valencia.

“But what happened is that Tottenham were not able to find the replacement for him, and Antonio Conte and Paratici were prepared to let him go only in [the event] they had the opportunity to find another player in that position.

“And so this is why at the end, Bryan Gil stayed at Tottenham and let’s see what happens in January.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

It is certainly going to be an interesting January transfer window with the winter World Cup potentially changing the dynamic for clubs.

But we do believe Spurs should be looking to offload Gil in January, with the winger nothing more than a number in Antonio Conte’s squad.

The 21-year-old is yet to play a single minute for the Lilywhites this season despite making the matchday squad six times already.

Gil has struggled for game time since joining Spurs, and with the youngster clearly not in favour, he surely has to leave in January to further his development.
