According to Alasdair Gold, Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte will not play down any rumours of him leaving in order to keep the pressure on the club.

After the torrid time under former boss Nuno Espirito Santo, Spurs immediately jumped to bring in Italian superstar manager Conte who secured them Champions League football in their first season with him.

As a result, they backed the manager and spent a huge £150m in the transfer window on players he wanted and needed to take the Lilywhites to the next level. However, one issue they have run into with having a wonderful manager is a lot of other clubs want him and therefore rumours of his departure are a constant threat.

Recently, Conte has been linked with his former club Juventus and it was reported he on Juve’s radar to potentially replace Massimiliano Allegri. Conte has not turned down the rumours at the time of writing, and Gold believes this is to keep pressure on the Spurs brass.

Gold said: “Obviously, we’ve seen all the Juventus links again, this week, Conte’s going to get linked here there and everywhere. He will not slap down those links, of course, he won’t. He wants to keep the pressure on Tottenham and what they do.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

Conte left The Old Lady back in 2014 due to a lack of investment in the side after their Serie A win, which Conte wanted to help the side challenge in the Champions League. Later he then left Inter Milan for the same reasons after they won the Scudetto, which led him to North London.

With this in mind, it is not surprising Conte is yet to shut down the rumours of a potential return to Serie A in order to make the Spurs brass sweat and continue to give him everything he wants. The Spurs hierarchy might not like it, but he is completely right in his actions and he should be given all the assets he wants.

Conte is an elite manager who has won titles everywhere he has gone. Spurs notoriously have not won a trophy of significance in a long time and Conte is their best chance at changing this. They still need to improve further to challenge Manchester City and therefore more money is key. Conte has the club right where he wants them and if they need to give him everything they want.
