Tottenham Hotspur could now look to return their interest in Alessandro Bastoni next summer, with the January transfer window potentially an unlikely option.

This has been hinted at by reliable Spurs journalist Alasdair Gold, who has been speaking on his latest YouTube video about the Italian centre-back.

It was strongly believed that Spurs went into this summer’s transfer window with the Inter defender at the top of their list, with Josko Gvardiol their other top option.

And there was certainly something of a transfer saga with the young centre-back as discussions took place between Inter and his agent to decide his future.

The decision was made for the £54m-rated Bastoni to remain in Milan, but Gold has hinted he may be a target Spurs look to try their luck with again in the summer.

He said: “I do think Bastoni would have been a very good addition. I’m hoping Clement Lenglet comes in and does a great job, but like I say, I wonder if they look at Bastoni again next summer. January may be not as easy.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

After Spurs failed to bring in Bastoni in what would have needed to be a ‘huge’ move during the summer just gone, they signed Clement Lenglet on loan for the campaign, which did appear to be a short-term solution until next summer. Although, the price of the Italian will no doubt rise even more should he continue on his current trajectory, with just under two years still left on his contract and him being just 23 years of age.

Do you still want Bastoni at Spurs?

And the left-sided centre-back spot has actually proven to be something of an issue for Antonio Conte so far, with Ben Davies having suffered from a number of injury issues already.

Albeit still early in the campaign, Inter have made a really poor start, while Bastoni’s game time has been reduced, prompting signs of frustration from the Italian defender.

With this in mind, if Spurs are still as interested as they were this summer, it would be interesting to see if the centre-back’s mind has changed on a potential move to north London.
