Nottingham Forest: Crook claims Cooper could be in firing line soon

|

Speaking before last night’s loss, journalist Alex Crook claimed that Nottingham Forest boss, Steve Cooper, could be in the firing line soon if he does not start to pick up wins.

The Garibaldi currently sit 19th in the Premier League table, having only managed one win in their first seven games which came in game week two, and they have lost their last four games.

Despite having spent an incredible £145.76m on players like Morgan Gibbs-White, Taiwo Awoniyi, Emmanuel Dennis, and Remo Freuler, it looks like they could be in for a relegation battle come to the end of the 22/23 season.

As a result of this poor form, Crook claimed during an appearance on the Talk Sport Game Day podcast that manager, Cooper, could be fired if the team do not pick up some points in their next few games.

Crook said, “But the point is if your owner has backed you, as much as he has 20 or players recruited this summer, and you’re still picking the existing lineup, and you’re not winning games, I think Steve Cooper is putting an awful lot of pressure on himself and we know that the owner is a little bit eccentric, shall we say… but if Forest lose this game going into an international break. I wouldn’t be surprised if questions are asked about Steve Cooper’s position.” (35:03)

TIF Thoughts on Crook’s comments…

In their last three games, Forest have conceded 12 goals while only scoring four, this sort of form cannot continue for much longer or they will be destined for relegation without having a chance to fight for their survival.

So far this season Cooper has a 25% win rate and is averaging just 0.88 points per game while averaging 2.13 goals against and 1.13 goals for. Across his career he has just a 48.13% win rate, having won just 77 of his 160 career games.

Forest have a mountain to climb in order to stay up this season, and if Cooper does not start to pick up some wins they should look to bring someone else in. They need a manager who will integrate their new signings and help this team get to its full potential, if Cooper can’t do this, it is best to fire him sooner rather than later.
