Newcastle United are now set to explore the French and German markets ahead of the January transfer window as they mix up their transfer approach.

This has been suggested by insider Dean Jones, who has been speaking to GiveMeSport following the conclusion of this summer’s transfer window.

Despite it being a sensible summer of business on Tyneside, Eddie Howe’s side have made a promising start to the new campaign with just one defeat to their name.

Although this was PIF’s first summer in charge of the Toon, only four signings were made, with three of those being defensive options (via Transfermarkt).

And it seems the Tyneside club are already putting plans in place to make sure they are ready for the January window with a tweak to their transfer process.

Jones said: “They’re either going to have to overpay for Premier League players or they are going to have to go and find some value in the foreign market.

“Look, they have found a few good deals along the way so far and I think that their recruitment will now be shaping up to look at Germany and France quite heavily.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

It is perhaps expected to hear Jones suggest Dan Ashworth will have an eye on the French market having had success in PIF’s early stages already.

Bruno Guimaraes is arguably the Toon’s best signing since Mike Ashley’s departure, with the former Lyon midfielder making an electric start to life on Tyneside.

And since the addition of the Brazilian, Newcastle have gone to France to pick up – what they will hope to be – a star defender of the future from Lille who can be a key component to the evolution of the Magpies in Sven Botman.

Although there was only one forward added this summer, their reported pursuit of Moussa Diaby is potentially an early sign of this focus on the German market as well as the French.

Therefore, this claim makes a lot of sense to us and we would not be surprised to see Newcastle move towards familiar targets in the windows to come.
