Newcastle United are now more likely to bring in a loan addition in the dying hours of this summer’s transfer window rather than a permanent signing.
This is what Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has told GiveMeSport as deadline day enters its final hours before shutting until January.
The Toon have enjoyed a steady summer of signings, with Alexander Isak their standout buy as the Swedish striker smashed their transfer record.
However, their search for a midfielder goes on into the final hours of the window having been linked with a number of creative options including Conor Gallagher.
A permanent move cannot be ruled out at this stage if the right deal crops up, however, Downie has been told a loan addition is more likely on Tyneside.
He said: “The information I’ve got is that a loan would be the most likely option.
“However, a permanent deal would not be ruled out if it was something that the club could not turn down. If it was a good financial deal for them, they could still do the deal.”
TIF Thoughts on Downie’s comments…
Newcastle continue to be linked with a potential late move for Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans, who now only has the remainder of the campaign left on his deal.

With this in mind, it is difficult to imagine the Belgian leaving on a loan basis which could cast some doubt over the possibility of Dan Ashworth landing the 25-year-old before the 11pm deadline.
But it would certainly feel like a big coup if Newcastle could land him this late on in the window given he has been linked so strongly with a potential move to Champions League-chasing Arsenal.
