Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Callum Wilson will be cursing his luck as an injury could see him lose his spot in the Newcastle United team.
This summer, the Magpies made their most eye-catching move in the form of a roughly £60m transfer for Swedish striker Alexander Isak.
For all that excitement, though, one man may not be feeling so great. Indeed, Wilson is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a fresh hamstring injury
While discussing this concern on the Chasing Green Arrows, Jones said it’s really bad timing for the Englishman as it will open to door for Isak to come in and shine.
He said: “Callum Wilson will be cursing the luck of the timing of this injury. Really, really bad luck for him that Isak is going to get an actual chance at having a run in the team.
“The way he finishes is just incredible, I think he’s a great player. He’s going to be such a good addition to the Premier League.”
Will Callum Wilson lose his starting spot to Alexander Isak?
TIF thoughts on Callum Wilson and Newcastle…
And with Eddie Howe tending to play a 4-3-3 there may only be space in the starting Newcastle team for one striker. So, if Isak can continue to shine while Wilson is out, the former Bournemouth striker may fell find it hard to get back into the team.
Wilson certainly seemed pretty downcast about the situation too. Indeed, he told his BBC Podcast (via ChronicleLive), that it was ‘disappointing’ and that he can’t really afford to keep missing out on game time with these issues.
“It’s only a couple of weeks, but it’s just a couple of weeks that I ain’t got to lose. Especially last year, having the achilles issue, and now the little tweak in my hamstring. It’s frustrating because you do everything right – the ultimate professional.
“There are probably not many people in the dressing room that are more professional than myself – the way I eat, the way I sleep, the way I recover. That’s the most frustrating thing – you’re putting your heart and soul into making sure you stay there.”
