The Athletic’s George Caulkin believes that Newcastle United’s owners will be looking to strike up a multi-club model in terms of their ownership plans.

PIF have managed to completely turn around the fortunes and feelings on Tyneside since their takeover at the back end of last year, with the Magpies now sitting inside the top 10 after splashing out over £200m in 2022.

While the work PIF have done on Tyneside will have all fans indebted to them, it doesn’t appear that they are 100% focused on the Magpies, with reports claiming that they are interested in taking over Inter and looking at some other smaller clubs.

This is why Caulkin has been speaking on Pod on the Tyne about the likelihood of PIF looking to create a multi-club model, much like Manchester City.

He said: “In terms of the multi-club model, I would expect that to happen. I haven’t heard anything specific on that at the moment, but a lot of clubs are doing that. It sort of makes sense.

Are you happy with PIF's tenure so far?

“If you take Man City as the obvious parallel, then that’s something they’ve done – they’ve taken over those other clubs and bought those other clubs.

“I’m not sure how much that benefits Man City, for example – having that relationship with the other clubs – I don’t know. But it would seem like a natural thing to do.”

TIF Thoughts on PIF’s off-field plans…

It will not only be exciting for Newcastle fans to see the improvements on the pitch at St James’ Park, but also what PIF have been doing off the pitch, with the appointments of both Ashworth and Darren Eales already pointing towards a brighter and more proactive future.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

Meanwhile, the signings of the likes of Alex Murphy and soon-to-be new arrival Garang Kuol show that they are actively planning for the here and now as well as the future, with a number of exciting youngsters at the club.

Having a multi-club model could allow Newcastle to send out these young players on loan to clubs they know and have great relationships with, so it’s no surprise that PIF are looking into something like this.
