Chris Waugh has been speaking on Pod on the Tyne about how Newcastle United are in advanced talks with Garang Kuol.

Newcastle finished the summer transfer window having brought in four new players, although three of them were to bolster their backline, which has likely played a part in their recent struggles in front of goal recording back-to-back draws.

While some are already looking towards the January transfer window, the Magpies are seemingly already planning on adding attacking talent through the club with highly-rated Australian Kuol said to be of interest to Newcastle.

Kuol, who has just been called up to the Australian national team, is said to be in advanced negotiations with Newcastle according to Waugh.

“They’ve been in advanced negotiations to sign Garang Kuol from Central Coast Mariners in Australia, he turned 18 last week and he’s just been called into the Australia national squad for their back-to-back matches against New Zealand, could play against Chris Wood over the course of the next fortnight.

“Basically, he’s seen as the biggest talent in Australia, the biggest young talent coming through and so several European sides have been looking at him, he’s a forward, he hasn’t actually started an A-League match yet he’s scored four goals and just 145 minutes coming on as a substitute.

Will Newcastle finish in the top 10?

“So he’s very raw still, but he clearly has something about him and Newcastle are looking to try and get him in.”

TIF Thoughts on the potential signing of Kuol…

It would certainly show that Newcastle are heading in a very bright and different direction under PIF and Dan Ashworth compared to under the stewardship of Mike Ashley as they are actively looking to improve more than just the first team.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

Whereas under Ashley players such as Aleksandar Mitrovic, Ivan Toney and Adam Armstrong were all sold on and have gone on to forge serious careers for themselves in England and the Premier League.

If Kuol does decide to choose Newcastle as his next destination despite interest from across Europe, according to Waugh, then it would show that young players now view the Magpies as a serious place for them to, develop and make a name for themselves.
