Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on his YouTube channel about Newcastle United’s imminent signing of Loris Karius.

After news broke of Karl Darlow having suffered an ankle injury, it was quickly reported that Newcastle were looking to bring in a replacement as soon as possible and that looks to be Karius, who is currently a free agent.

The German keeper will be well-known by Newcastle fans given his time spent at Liverpool that included high-profile errors, especially against Real Madrid in the Champions League final, but he is now ready for a new challenge according to Romano.

Karius is seemingly set to join on a short-term basis until January as Romano explained.

“Loris Karius former Liverpool goalkeeper available on a free transfer after his contract with Liverpool expired time ago, now he’s ready for a new chapter in the Premier League and he will be new Newcastle second goalkeeper.

“They needed a second goalkeeper after the injury they had a few days ago and so they decided to go for Karius on a free transfer, big opportunity for him. We still remember that final with Real Madrid which was really unlucky but he wanted a new challenge, he wanted a new chapter and it will be at Newcastle.

Are you happy with the Karius deal?

No!

“I’m told that it will be a short contract until January and then they will have an option to continue together until the end of the season, it will be decided later but a new opportunity for Loris Karius.”

TIF Thoughts on Karius joining Newcastle…

While bringing in someone with both Premier League and Champions League experience may seem like a decent option for Newcastle as they quickly needed a backup shot stopper, this could have all been avoided had they not let Martin Dubravka leave on deadline day.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

Eddie Howe insisted on several occasions, that he didn’t want to lose Dubravka in the transfer window, however, he indeed ended up leaving for Manchester United, but now that Karl Darlow is out injured, that decision looks like a very unwise one by PIF.

As long as Pope, who’s started the season in excellent form being nominated for Player of the Month and has kept clean sheets in 50% of his games, then it’s unlikely Karius will get anywhere near the first team lineup unless it’s a cup fixture, but now Newcastle are indeed just one injury away from some serious concerns being raised about their goalkeeping department.
