Craig Hope has been speaking on Instagram about what he saw post-match from Newcastle United ace Callum Wilson that should be good news.

It’s been a tough time of things lately for Newcastle and Eddie Howe as they’ve become rather toothless in front of goal with the Magpies not managing to score more than once in a game since August 21st against Manchester City.

This has also coincided with the loss of joint-top scorer Wilson to a hamstring injury, although it now appears that the striker is edging closer to a return, and was even close to playing on the weekend against Bournemouth, according to Howe’s comments.

Hope has offered even further positive news for fans as after the Magpies’ 1-1 draw at home on Saturday he saw Wilson running up the St James’ Park stairs hinting at his imminent return to fitness.

(0:00) “Well hello from St James’ Park, welcome back, a little bit of news for you straightaway, Callum Wilson has just run up the stairs there behind me with his family and he certainly looked fit so I think we should probably expect to see Callum Wilson back after the international break.

Who would you want to start for Newcastle?

“We did speak to Eddie Howe and he said that Wilson was very close today [vs Bournemouth] but he’d made an early decision in the week not to risk it.”

TIF Thoughts on Callum Wilson…

Despite having a £63 million new striker within their ranks in the form of Alexander Isak, there is still no getting away from the fact that Newcastle are a better team with Wilson as their main focal point.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

Wilson currently averages just better than a goal every start in the Premier League for Newcastle which proves just how great of a striker he is at this level, the only thing against him is his constant injury woes which have plagued his entire Newcastle career.

However, if he can fully recover over the international break and come back fit and firing until at least the mid-season break then he and Isak could well start to form a solid partnership and help the Magpies climb up the table.
