Newcastle United have made a number of off-field appointments to boost the club’s chances of competing among the best the Premier League has to offer.

This has been highlighted by Newcastle journalist Aaron Stokes, who was speaking on the latest episode of the Everything is Black & White podcast.

It was a tricky summer transfer window for the Toon, who saw a number of approaches knocked back by clubs who were looking for larger transfer fees from the Tyneside club.

Four additions were brought in, with Alexander Isak breaking their transfer record, but Eddie Howe did see other targets such as a winger and central midfielder pass them by.

However, to ensure the Magpies are in the best possible position to attack the January window, Stokes has highlighted Dan Ashworth and CEO Darren Eales’ behind-the-scenes work at St James’ Park:

He said: “We already know that Ashworth and Darren Eales, they’ve appointed a few more people behind the scenes to try and make sure that they get the right deals done – and very, very early in January.

“So it is a reminder [injuries] to them that they’re short, but I do think Eddie Howe and his backroom team knew that going into the last couple of games.”

TIF Thoughts on Stokes’ comments…

It was apparent PIF endured some issues over the summer window in not being able to land a number of their reported targets such as James Maddison.

And it has been an extremely difficult start to the 2022/23 campaign, with injuries plaguing Howe’s squad – sidelining a number of his starting XI.

With injuries playing a big part in the early stages of their season, we think it is essential the Toon attack the January window if they are serious about making a push towards the top half of the table.

And it seems they feel the same way, with work already going on behind the scenes to put the club in the best position for the winter market.
