Chris Waugh has been speaking on Pod on the Tyne about Callum Wilson’s long-awaited Newcastle United return.
While many will almost expect Wilson to pick up injuries through the seasons as he’s never been able to stay fit for an entire campaign since joining the Magpies back in 2020, some will have hoped he could’ve lasted more than three league games.
Wilson was forced off against Manchester City after he put the Magpies ahead and hasn’t been seen on the pitch since then, although the travelling Newcastle fans heading down to London for their game against Fulham as Waugh believes Wilson will indeed return for that game.
Waugh has spoken about Wilson’s return which looks set to be next week against Fulham.
“It’s more positive about Callum Wilson than it is about Allan Saint-Maximin. We expect Callum Wilson to be back, certainly involved in the squad for Fulham, as long as he doesn’t have any sort of setback over the course of this week.

“He started training again this week, and is back and close to fitness so that is a huge boost, Newcastle getting their top scorer from the last two seasons back.”
TIF Thoughts on Wilson’s return…
It can’t be understated how important Wilson is and has been for Newcastle since joining in 2020 for £20 million having netted 22 league goals in just 43 league starts which is a stunning return, especially in a side that has always been fighting against relegation during his time on Tyneside.
Despite the club splashing out a club-record fee for Alexander Isak and the Sweden international netting twice in his first three league starts, he’s picked up a knock and has left Sweden’s training camp to be assessed by the Magpies, so Wilson may have no issues getting back into the team.
Since Wilson’s injury, the Magpies have only managed to score two goals from open play and they came from Isak and Allan Saint-Maximin’s wonder strike vs Wolves, showing just how much of a difference someone as talented and experienced as Wilson can be for Newcastle.
