Newcastle United are now expecting to be boosted by the return of Elliot Anderson for their next Premier League clash, according to Aaron Stokes.

The Toon correspondent for The Chronicle has been speaking on the latest episode of the Everything is Black & White podcast ahead of the trip to Fulham on Saturday.

Eddie Howe’s options have been depleted in recent weeks by a series of injuries to some of the Magpies’ key players such as Bruno Guimaraes and Callum Wilson.

One of the players who has also been sidelined is youngster Anderson, with what has been described as a ‘very minor niggle‘ – though it proved enough to keep him out of the recent Bournemouth draw.

But ahead of the return of Premier League football following the international break, Stokes expects Howe to be boosted by Anderson’s return.

He said: “Anderson, we know, as we understand, that he probably should be fit. Eddie Howe was very, very quick to clear up after Bournemouth that it was a very minor niggle.

“It didn’t look like that; he trained for about 10 days beforehand. But it’s not been described as serious by the club.”

TIF Thoughts on Stokes’ comments…

If Anderson is fit enough to return on the weekend, we will be intrigued to see what role he plays, with Newcastle potentially also without Alexander Isak and Allan Saint-Maximin.

Should Anderson start against Fulham?

Anderson has only made three appearances this season in the top flight, with all of them coming off the bench – but he has certainly impressed in those games.

The likes of Ryan Fraser and Miguel Almiron have hardly set the world alight this season with just the one league goal between them, so we will be interested to see if Anderson is able to force his way into the starting XI.
