Injury specialist, Ben Dinnery, recently claimed Newcastle United star Alexander Isak could be out for an extended period for his dead leg as they do not know the extent yet.

The Swedish youngster got his Newcastle career off to a bang in their midweek fixture as he picked up a wonderfully taken goal and was narrowly denied a second by VAR in the second half.

However, while he started the game well with his goal, he picked up a dead leg in the second half of their loss to Liverpool and was subbed off in the 64th minute for Chris Wood just after the Reds pulled one back.

There is yet to be a conclusion on when he will return, and while Dinnery reports there is nothing serious to suggest he will be out for a long time, he insists that this type of injury is not a minor knock and his recovery timeline could be extended.

He told the Premier FPL Injuries show, “He [Alexander Isak] picked up a dead leg again, nothing too serious. One of these injuries where we couldn’t categorically state that he will be okay for the weekend. These are very painful, they can evolve, and we have seen instances in the past, Raphinha is one that springs to mind that all, you know, that resulted in the player being sent to hospital and also keep him out for up to a month on the sidelines.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

“So, you know they’re not that minor or slight knock that people tend to think it is a possibility that timeline could be extended but nothing at this point suggests it is serious and like I said, Eddie Howe did indicate that it was always in the plan to bring him off in and around that hour mark.”

TIF Thoughts on Isak…

There is no doubt both Eddie Howe and the fans will want to see their record-breaking signing start against Crystal Palace this weekend and continue on his fine goal-scoring form, but we will have to wait and see for now.

If he does return in time for the weekend, Howe will be hoping he can bring another performance as he did against Liverpool, where he earned a 7.3 match rating from the statistics website, Sofascore.

According to the site, in his 64-minutes on the pitch he bagged one goal with one shot on target and one off target, He also completed seven of his ten passes while winning three of his five ground duels and helped out on the defensive side of the ball with two successful tackles and one interception.

With the recent injuries to Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin, the 22-year-old has a great chance to mark his stamp on the team and show the fans that he was worth every penny they paid for him, let’s just hope he can take to the pitch once again this weekend.

Howe has since spoken to the media and claimed he is hoping Isak will be fit enough to play against the Eagles, however, there was no definitive answer from the Toon manager.
