Trusted journalist Fabrizio Romano has said that Manchester United are not likely to sign Marco Asensio this summer.

According to The Telegraph, the Red Devils were recently offered the chance to sign Asensio, who is said to be available for a fee in the region of £25m.

However, as we enter into the very final stage of the summer transfer market, it remains to be seen as to whether or not the Real Madrid man ends up at Manchester United.

According to Romano, though, it seems as though this will probably not happen as United don’t see him as a priority despite his apparent availability – which will come as a blow to those who are fans of the three-time La Liga winner.

While speaking on his YouTube channel, he explained (3:43): “Let’s see what happens with Marco Asensio in general, but not for Man United as of now.

“Because for Man United was a possibility when they were considering potential alternatives to Antony. [Cody] Gakpo, Asensio [were seen] as potential names, but they always wanted Anthony as a  priority target.

“Asensio has been offered to many English clubs, to many Premier League clubs by his agent Jorge Mendes. But at the moment, still no agreement reached with any club. For Man United, as of now, he is not a topic.”

TIF thoughts on Marco Asensio and Manchester United…

Seeing as Man Utd have just agreed an £86m deal for Antony, it would be a bit of a shock to see the club then go out and bring in another forward.

However, Asensio can operate a little deeper, as a midfielder too, and so there could potentially be space in Erik ten Hag’s team for the man who has three Champions League trophies under his belt.

And still only 26 years of age, the Spaniard may have plenty to offer too. Even so, if Romano’s update is accurate, it seems as though United are happy to let this opportunity pass them by.

It’ll be interesting to see if Asensio ends up at another Premier League club instead of them.
