Mark Goldbridge has claimed that Manchester United potentially selling James Garner is illogical this summer.
According to Sky Sports, Manchester United midfielder James Garner is close to completing a deal with fellow Premier League side Everton, with the fee said to be in the region of £15m.
Garner spent last season on loan in the Championship with Nottingham Forest, as he helped them gain promotion to the Premier League, but he is yet to feature in the top flight this season since returning to Manchester United.
With Garner looking like he will be leaving Old Trafford before the transfer window ends, Goldbridge spoke on The United Stand YouTube channel and claimed that it is ‘illogical’ for United to let him go.
He said: “I think this is a terrible deal because he went on loan last season in the Championship and got promoted. This season for Garner was all about, can you do it in the Premier League, and before we’ve seen whether he can do it in the Premier League, we’re selling him. That, to me, is illogical.”

After Garner made 49 appearances for Forest last season and was instrumental in their promotion-winning campaign, it may have come as a surprise that because they have not sold him, he has not played a single minute in the Premier League.
However, if he is not in Erik ten Hag’s plans this season, it might be best for all parties to let him go this summer, but there might be the fear that if he does leave for Everton, he will prove that he can cut it in the Premier League and United might regret letting him go.
United opted to sign Casemiro on a five-year deal from Real Madrid, which is a further indication that Garner will not be involved this season, but again as he is just 21 years old, the fear might be there that he will go on a show the world what he can do when given an opportunity.
