Eurosport journalist Siavoush Fallahi has expressed his confusion as Liverpool close in on a deadline day move for midfielder Arthur Melo.

It’s no secret that the Reds are on the hunt for a new man in the middle of the park, with manager Jurgen Klopp even admitting as much in a recent interview.

And, at the time of writing, it seems as though the club have decided to act upon that need as trusted transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has now reported that a deal for the Juventus man is close and a medical later will happen later today.

In reaction to the news, Fallahi asked on Twitter:  “What on earth am I reading?”

He added: “I think Arthur is a good player and obviously knows how to play football, however, he hasn’t been good at Juve. Must be said though that many players weren’t good at Juve with Allegri and that changing environment might get the most out of them (De Ligt, Kulusevski, Bentancur).

TIF Thoughts on Arthur Melo and Liverpool…

It seems as though Fallahi is not particularly impressed by the idea of Arthur joining Liverpool. This may seem harsh when you consider the Brazilian has won major silverware with his country, Juventus and Barcelona.

However, he is yet to play for his current club this season and started just 11 Serie A games last term. With that in mind, he’s hardly a key cog at Juventus, so it seems odd to think he may well be expected to make a big impact for the Reds.

Even so, transfer options may be limited, and if Arthur is available, Klopp may well feel he is the best man they can bring to the Premier League on such short notice.

If he does join, which seems likely at this stage, it will certainly be interesting to see how he settles into life in England as Liverpool look to improve after a slow start to the season. If he does, Fallahi may well be eating his words.
